Gate marker
Gate markers (or gate tokens) are game pieces used to represent open gates. At the beginning of the game all gate markers are shuffled and placed face down in a pile. These markers are referred to as the 'unused gate markers'. Later, when a new gate is opened during play, a random gate marker is drawn from the pile of unused markers and placed on a specific location. Each gate marker indicates an Other World to which it leads as well as a modifier added to checks made to close the gate. If an investigator successfully closes the gate, the gate marker is removed from the board and the player is given the marker as a gate trophy.
If a mythos card indicates that a gate should spawn at a certain location but there are no more unused gate markers left in the pile, the Ancient One immediately awakens.
When a gate is closed or sealed, all monsters in Arkham, the Sky, and the Outskirts that have the same dimensional symbol as the gate marker are removed from the board and returned to the monster cup.
