Spell check
A Spell check is a special type of Lore check used to determine an Investigator's success or failure in casting a spell.
The value used for the Spell check is determined by adding the investigator's net Lore skill value, including any special Lore or Spell adjustments they may have from Skills, Allies, or other cards, and finally adding or subtracting any Casting modifier for this Spell, as given by the Casting modifier on the card. This total gives the number of dice used for the Spell check.
If the Spell check fails, nothing happens and the spell does not take effect. Normally passing the Spell check requires only one success, but a Spell card may specify the number of successes required. A few spells such as The Yellow Mist have effects which depend on the number of successes rolled.
